20 Things You Didn't Know About Alien 3

10. One Of The Failed Scripts Was Reworked Into Pitch Black

David Twohy's script of Alien³ had the story centre around a prison planet. Although this script wasn't used, several elements were incorporated into the finished movie.

But Alien 3 wasn't the only film Twohy's script affected. Many years later, the Californian-born director revisited that script and reworked it into a new story named Pitch Black. The horror film, which launched Vin Diesel's career, revolved around a female space explorer called Fry who teams up with serial killer Riddick to battle aliens.

However, having a female character ally with a convict to battle extra-terrestrials isn't the only similarity Pitch Black and Alien³ have. Riddick's home planet, Furya, is a reference to Fiorini "Fury" 161, where Alien³ takes place. Also, Riddick was envisioned as a woman since Twohy wanted the main character to be a badass female (just like Ripley). However, the character was changed to a bald-headed man with goggles who despises humanity, just like Junior from Alien³. Despite being a murderer, Riddick redeems himself by killing the alien to avenge Fry, much like how Dillon redeems himself in Alien³ by sacrificing himself for Ripley.
