20 Things You Didn't Know About Blade Runner 2049

12. Blade Runner 2049 And Classic Literature

Blade Runner 2049 has several references to classic literature that might not have been immediately obvious on first viewing. When Harrison Ford appears in the third act, his first line, "You wouldn't happen to have a piece of cheese about you now, would you boy?" is taken from marooned pirate Ben Gunn in Treasure Island.

The baseline test, as covered earlier, is from Vladimir Nabokov's Pale Fire; In Franz Kafka's The Trial, the main character is called Joseph K, much like our protagonist Joe, aka Officer K.

And if that's still not enough, the sign on K's apartment building reads 'Moebius' in Japanese, after Jean 'Moebius' Giraud, whose striking artwork was a huge influence on the world of the Blade Runners.
