11. Tanner Bolt Was Originally Written For An "Alec Baldwin-Type"
The low-key weirdest thing in Gone Girl is surely the casting of Tyler Perry as hotshot lawyer Tanner Bolt.
Perry, better known for his critically reviled, self-directed movies, proves surprisingly excellent as the quick-witted, no-nonsense lawyer - a part which was originally written for an "Alec Baldwin-type."
Given Bolt's terse nature, that absolutely makes sense. After the film's release, Perry curiously admitted that he didn't know anything about the novel or Fincher before signing on. He said:
"I probably would have walked away from it. If I had known who David Fincher was, and his body of work, or if I'd known the book was so popular, and so many people loved it, I would have said, 'No', and my agent knew that! He didn't tell me until after I signed on, and the reason I wouldn't have done it, is because when things are that magical for people, and they become very special for people, there's a lot of pressure for it to be what they want it to be."
