20 Things You Didn't Know About Halloween (1978)

17. Laurie's Song

Halloween 1978
Compass International Pictures

As Laurie Strode walks down the road from the Myers House, she begins to sing a song about "just the two of us".

Unbeknownst to her, The Shape steps up behind her, intent on following her, perhaps because she reminds him of the sister that he murdered, Judith. Indeed, Laurie's song could even be interpreted as being an open invitation for The Shape to follow her.

What the audience does not realise, however, is that Jamie Lee Curtis completely improvised this song and yet made it so fitting, both to The Shape's rampage against Laurie Strode and (perhaps unknowingly) to the wider story that would be uncovered in the Halloween franchise.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
