20 Things You Didn't Know About Halloween (1978)

18. Jamie Lee Curtis The Teenager

Halloween 1978

Halloween started life as a film about the stalking and murder of several teenage babysitters.

By the time the film was released in October 1978, P.J. Soles who portrayed Lynda van der Klok (and had been born in July 1950) was 28 years old, as was Nancy Kyes (formerly Loomis) who portrayed Annie Brackett (who had been born in December 1949).

On the other hand, Jamie Lee Curtis had been born in November 1958 and would have been 19 years old at the time of filming in May 1978 and upon the film's initial release. Therefore, out of the actresses to portray the key female characters of Laurie Strode, Lynda van der Klok, and Annie Brackett, Curtis is the only one who was actually a teenager at the time.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
