20 Things You Didn't Know About Halloween (1978)

15. The Poster In Laurie's Bedroom

Laurie's bedroom has been used as a mine for details surrounding her character, not least given that a doll on her dresser was featured in the 2002 film, Halloween: Resurrection.

However, there is a poster in Laurie's room which is intrinsic to the story of this original entry in the Halloween franchise: a poster of Belgian artist, James Ensor (1860-1949).

Ensor was well-known for his paintings of individuals wearing grotesque masks, for instance in The Scandalised Masks (1883) and Skeletons Fighting over a Hanged Man (1891), as well as his most ambitious work, Christ's Entry Into Brussels in 1889 (1888).

It seems that Laurie Strode, like Michael Myers, has a penchant for masked individuals, which has helped to feed fan theories that Laurie actually wills The Shape to follow her and that she may even be subconsciously aware of the link between herself and Michael, which is established in the film's earlier sequels.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
