20 Things You Didn't Know About Near Dark

13. Paxton The Prankster

Near Dark
DeLaurentiis Entertainment

Bill Paxton; what a bloody legend. There was an actor who had managed to stay relevant through four decades of filmmaking. His take on Severen, the leather clad nutter, is Paxton gleefully improvising his way to cult status.

While filming in Arizona, the same freight train would roll into town every night at the same time. Paxton had just finished filming the truck crash sequence and as such, was made up to look like half his face was missing, dripping with fake blood.

According to Henriksen, Paxton approached the driver, pretending to be a road crash victim and said: "Hey man, there's been a terrible accident. You think I look bad, you should see the other guy!" leaving the driver in a state of total panic before letting him in on the joke.
