9. Norway Is Netflix's Most Popular Country (Outside The U.S.)

As we already mentioned, Netflix is a huge global brand, which might lead some to ask the question... so what are the countries that use it the most?

To answer that query, Emarketer conducted a study to measure the service's global penetration, which was tracked as "the number of individuals of any age who watched Netflix via app or website at least once per month." And the countries at the top of the results may surprise you.

Aside from obvious frontrunner the U.S., it was Norway that hit the top of the list, with a huge 62.4% user penetration. Other surprising leaders were Denmark in fourth place (54.9%), Sweden in fifth place (50.2%) and the Netherlands in sixth place (43.6%). The U.K., meanwhile, came in tenth. We just can't win at anything.

The takeaway here - other than that Scandinavia really loves Stranger Things - is that there can be no doubt that Netflix is a core entertainment brand the world over. This study was conducted in 2018 too, so all of those figures will have grown since then.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
