As a brand, Netflix is now a household name, recognisable the world over as a cornerstone of any home entertainment setup.

It's hard to deny that the moniker "Netflix" isn't a good one either - short, snappy and descriptive - but in an alternate reality, that name could have been a lot different.

Originally, the service was called... Kibble. Yep. Kibble. Many moons ago, that was Netflix's placeholder name, with the choice behind that word being a reference to the fact that a product can't be a success until "the dogs eat the dog food" (some people use kibble as a synonym for pet food).

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
