Despite several old-school Hollywood filmmakers attempting to discredit streaming platforms, Netflix's original movies have earned quite a lot of awards buzz, especially over the last two or three years.

The most recent Oscars ceremony saw the likes of Marriage Story and The Irishman up for some top prizes (with the former snagging a Best Supporting Actress statue for Laura Dern), and last year, Alfonso Cuaron's Roma won three: Best Cinematography, Best Director, and Best Foreign Language Film.

When totted up, Netflix movies have been nominated for a grand total of 54 Oscars since 2014, with eight wins overall. On top of the aforementioned four, they've won Best Documentary Short and Best Documentary Feature twice each.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
