19. Eating For Two… Just Not In The Way You Think

In a movie as tightly crafted and well-thought out as Parasite, it is no surprise that the film’s use of foreshadowing is just as brilliant as its other qualities. From Da-song’s painting hinting at the presence of Geun-sae in the Park house, to the dramatic irony found in Ki-taek’s disdain of stink bugs, the picture is rife with throwaway moments that take on new meaning once the film is complete.

One exceptionally inventive use of foreshadowing happens when Mr. Park mentions that their housekeeper Moon-gwang eats “enough for two”. At first, it seems like an insensitive but ultimately insignificant jab at the latter’s eating habits but the line takes on a whole new dimension once Geun-sae is revealed to the audience.

This oversight on the well-off family’s part is yet another example of how out-of-touch they are with matters that they believe do not necessarily concern them.
