In addition to the aforementioned technical issues surrounding the suits, the performers inside them also struggled massively to carry out their jobs effectively throughout shooting.

Raphael actor Josh Pais suffers from claustrophobia, and due to the suit's helmet packing a lot of animatronic technology into an incredibly small space, he would have to remove his helmet immediately after filming scenes as the character. Pais apparently referred to it as "like being in Grand Central Station at rush hour with a tin can over your head."

There were also numerous issues with the stunt performers who carried out the in-suit action sequences.

The original Hong Kong stuntman who performed Donatello's stunts was injured and martial artist Ernie Reyes Jr. was brought on-board to replace him. Reyes later stated that he needed to drink a gallon of water per day to keep hydrated inside the hot suit.

There was also an issue with Raphael's original stunt performer, who received a broken nose after the animatronic helmet was broken during a fight scene and caved in, resulting in him being replaced by stuntman Kenn Scott.
