20 Things You Didn't Know About The Blair Witch Project

2. The Alternative Endings

The finished finale of the movie wasn’t originally actually meant to be what audiences ultimately got.

Writers and directors Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez had a shocking twist ending imagined, yet the filmmakers ran out of budget and so ended up with the finale of Heather finding Mike before she then gets floored from something off-camera.

Once the movie was picked up for distribution by Artisan, a budget was given for Myrick and Sanchez to work on new endings. As such, several alternative endings were shot.

Ultimately, the studio allowed Myrick and Sanchez to use the ending that we saw in the film – yet there was one ending shot where Mike was crucified on a large stick figure, one where Mike was hanged, and one where Mike had blood coming from his chest.
