Sad Hill Cemetery, the sprawling graveyard seen in the film's explosive finale, was constructed in 1966 by the Spanish Army, painstakingly building over 5000 graves. The stunning location is undoubtedly one of the film's most iconic and memorable.

Despite the work put into the set's construction, however, the set was simply abandoned as it was, and over decades it became completely overgrown and almost entirely hidden.

In 2015, a group of film fans decided to attempt to uncover the site, resulting in countless volunteers travelling to Burgos, Spain, to unearth and restore it. The process was captured in the documentary Sad Hill Unearthed, and the site is now a popular attraction for film fans, with graves bearing the names of departed figures such as Sergio Leone and Eli Wallach.
