As dark and abusive as the show was, it's important to remember that cast and crew were all relying on the show to continue, else they're out of a job. Considering everyone involved had been employed to keep the show running and rarely left the dome, this was all they had to support them financially.

When you think about The Truman Show from their point of view, it's a dream job. Let's face it, there aren't many careers that offer lifetime employment and free housing.

However, as Truman started to wise up to the deception, it was a sobering reminder to everyone involved that their cushy role was at risk. Many of the cast and crew will have started thinking about the future in a way they had never needed to for many years.

For actors in the dome, it was something they would need to do in secret. Even though everything seemed to be prepped for a fallout, there was still a chance the show could go on.

For the crew up in the moon, there was less need for subtly, leading to a shot of the control room director flicking through the local classifieds.
