During the filming of GoldenEye, the Bond producers had secured a three-film product placement deal with BMW. The World Is Not Enough was the conclusion of that deal.

During pre-production on The World Is Not Enough, the filmmakers had approached BMW to use their in-development Z8 model in the film. However, to their dismay, the BMW chiefs discovered that the filmmakers’ intention was to saw their brand new model in half with a buzzsaw suspended from a helicopter at the end of the second third of the film.

Even though they were shocked, the German car manufacturer provided the filmmakers with a prototype and several working mock-ups to use after having spoken with Tom Pevsner, a diplomatic executive producer who had recently retired from the Bond franchise.

Whilst it is a sad end to a beautiful vehicle, the destruction of the BMW Z8 has gone down in history as one of the most famous and visually entertaining action sequences in the history of the franchise.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
