20 Things You Didn't Know About The World Is Not Enough (1999)

18. The Car

World Is Not Enough Fight
MGM

The climax of The World Is Not Enough appears to contain a major continuity gaff: M, R (John Cleese), Bill Tanner (Michael Kitchen), Charles Robinson (Colin Salmon), and Miss Moneypenny (Samantha Bond) use thermal satellite imaging to find James Bond in Istanbul, identifying his location by finding his car.

However, as audiences will recall, Bond’s BMW Z8 was sawn in half at Zukovsky’s factory near Baku in Azerbaijan, meaning that it could hardly have made the journey to Istanbul from the Caspian Sea (unless someone went out and did some major repair work to it).

The original script would have cleared up this problem: the Aston Martin DB5 was actually meant to have been shipped to Turkey as back-up transportation. Whilst Raymond Benson’s novelisation of the film (based on the script) also clears this point up, it curiously remains a mystery in the finished film.

Contributor

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
