20 Things You Didn't Know About The World Is Not Enough (1999)

17. Romantic Compositions

David Arnold was very pleased to be recalled to compose The World Is Not Enough after his successful first Bond outing, Tomorrow Never Dies (1997).

His idol and long-time Bond composer, John Barry had a knack for devising musical themes that recurred throughout the films, most notably his 007 Theme, which was a companion piece to The James Bond Theme so Arnold also started to develop his own recurring themes in this film.

His compositions, “Snow Business” and “Christmas In Turkey”, which play whilst Bond and Elektra are skiing in the Caucasus Mountains and whilst Bond is romancing Dr. Christmas Jones (Denise Richards) in Istanbul respectively, capture the romanticism of the events onscreen.

Arnold incorporated the cues into his compositions “Moneypenny Gets It” and “Going Down Together” in the closing scenes of Die Another Day (2002).

Other elements of his score for The World Is Not Enough were also featured in that film, particularly during the sequences set aboard Gustav Graves's (Toby Stephens's) doomed Antonov cargo plane.

Contributor

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
