4. Bay's Computer Was Hacked And He Received Death Threats
Since the film had such intense fan interest, the production team decided to keep the making of the film as secretive as possible. Very little information was released to the public. Portions of the script were given out to the actors as paper copies as to avoid digital leaks, with only Bay and the writers holding a final copy of the script digitally. Of course all this secrecy and security did not stop eager fans hacking into the productions computers to gain access to any information possible.
Once many of the concept designs of the robots leaked, Bay began to receive death threats on an unprecedented scale. Fans were angered that Bay had decided to change the designs of their favorite characters. One design, that of Decepticon leader Megatron’s, received so much backlash that the designers were forced to alter the final look of the character.
In the end it was estimated that up to 39,000 people attempted to hack computers involved in the making of the film. One person who was able to break into Bay’s personal computer was later arrested and charged.
