16. It Was Originally A Plane Crash
At the beginning of the film, main character David Dunn is the sole survivor of a horrendous train crash, which sparks his journey and encounter with Elijah Price who believes him to be a real life superhero of sorts. It wasn't always supposed to be a train crash that David survived however, M. Night Shyamalan's original script had David walking away unscathed from a plane crash.
The director stated the reason for this change was because of his own fondness for trains and also that it felt more 'comic-booky'. He also explained how it was more reasonable for a man to survive a train crash rather than a plane crash, and for it to be dismissed as luck.
