20 Things You Didn't Know About Your Favourite Action Movies

9. Jean-Claude Van Damme Originally Played The Predator

Before being brought to life by the indomitable Kevin Peter Hall, the eponymous villain of the original Predator movie was to be portrayed by none other than Jean-Claude Van Damme. However, there were two big problems during the shoot that prevented this from happening. One, the moment he realized he€™d be playing an uncredited special effect and that his face wouldn€™t be seen. And two, the original design for the creature was absolutely atrocious. The original monster looked like an ungainly reptile creature with large eyes and exposed muscles. Footage of a young Van Damme filming in the Mexican jungle shows an all-red version of the suit that would later be used to "cloak" the Predator in post. In red, the character looks something like an unfortunate cross between ALF and Spiderman. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1GfUoB0kog
