20 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Logan

15. The Debate Surrounding Logan’s Ultimate Fate

Due to how unambiguous Logan’s death was, it would be assumed that James Mangold and Hugh Jackman were on the same page regarding how the character’s final moments would play out. However, this is far from the truth as the director and star had deeply contrasting views on whether or not the titular anti-hero should live or die.

Jackman wanted Logan to survive the events of the film and be plagued by the weight of his violent past influencing his future decisions and actions. Mangold, on the other hand, wanted him to find a semblance of peace in his demise after having lived a long and violent life.

Mangold winning out at the end of the day was to the story’s benefit as it brought about a sense of finality rarely seen in the genre, as well as a sense of somber relief to a flawed but noble character.
