20 Things You Probably Didn't Know About The Godfather
2. Brando Worked On A Video Game Adaptation... And Got Fired!
In 2006, EA released a Godfather game for the PS2 and Xbox, based directly on Francis Ford Coppola's film. Even though most gamers were excited to play an open-world action adventurer revolving around the Corleones, some people were less than pleased. Francis Ford Coppola wanted nothing to do with the product and Al Pacino refused to be involved, forcing the company to change Michael Corleone's appearance so he bared no resemblance to the iconic actor.
To ensure fans that The Godfather game wasn't a shameless cash-grab, EA convinced Marlon Brando to reprise the role of Don Vito Corleone.
Even though Brando's participation was the game's biggest selling point, it was mostly for nought. Brando was so ill at the time (he died two years before the game was released), most of his dialogue was unusable. As a result, the company had no choice but to hire another actor, Doug Abrahams, to re-record the majority of Brando's lines.
