You might remember that Dr. Augustine has a fondness for cigarettes - it's the first thing she craves when exiting her Avatar, and she's seen puffing on cigs in numerous scenes throughout the movie.

But you probably had no idea at all that these cigarettes are entirely CGI, from the cig itself to the smoke that it produces.

While Hollywood has been using fake cigarettes for decades, Cameron ditched the idea of a prop cig in favour of producing them entirely from scratch in post-production, while Weaver simply held a stand-in object on set.

Though many questioned the decision to make an ultra-smart scientist like Grace a smoker, Cameron retorted that the character trait was intended to be a critique of gamers who live too much in the virtual world while neglecting their own health. Ouch.
