5. Jake Climbs The Vines With A Marine Technique

When Jake is taking part in the coming-of-age ritual to tame a Banshee for himself, note that he climbs the vines in a totally different way to the native Na'vi.

While they climb in much the same way that a regular human probably would - that is, pulling themselves up while gripping the rope with their feet - Jake does things quite differently.

Instead Jake, being a former Marine, uses the "S-Method," a climbing technique taught to Marines in which they wrap their legs around the rope as they climb.

Though slower than other climbing techniques, it's incredibly secure and minimises the risk of losing your footing and falling due to the increased friction involved.

Jake may be a paralysed former Marine, but evidently the training has stayed with him.
