As far as origin stories go in the MCU, there is a mixed bag to be seen. Captain America: The First Avenger isn’t exactly one of the greatest movies in the franchise to date, but it’s certainly far from being one of the worst. What it did was introduce the world to this version of Captain America, and the journey he took from being rejected from every enlistment center to saving the world.

Even after he was pumped with the super soldier serum, it seemed no one believed in him and he was given little more to do than to entertain the troops and sell defence bonds. Steve was never one to disobey orders, at least without a good reason, so he did his duty.

His own personal way of fighting back was with a sketch he drew of himself as a performing monkey on a unicycle. Though he drew it back in the 1940s, the picture still made it to the modern day to be framed in the Avengers compound. This can be seen next to Steve during the team’s meeting with Secretary Ross, though quite how it survived is one hell of a question.

If Steve had it on him when he was frozen, there is no way the scrap of paper made it out in such good condition. If he didn’t have it on him, then how could he have recovered it all those years later? Perhaps he drew it again as a reminder, or maybe even Peggy held on to it herself?
