20 Things You Somehow Missed In Gravity
17. Sandra Bullock Was Behind One Of Her Character's Most Notable Traits
Dr. Ryan Stone may not be the most complex character in a survival flick, but a combination of effective writing and a powerful performance from Sandra Bullock made the beleaguered astronaut one of the genre's standouts.
Therefore, it is not that surprising that Bullock herself was responsible for one of the key components that defined Stone's character arc. Initially, the doctor-turned-astronaut's daughter, Sarah, was supposed to be alive and she served as Ryan's main reason for surviving her ordeal and making it back to Earth.
However, Bullock changed this character attribute and made it so that Ryan's reasons for survival had less to do with her daughter and more with a primal desire to live.
This change in character motivation worked for the best as it ties neatly into the film's themes of overcoming adversity and a new lease at life.
