20 Things You Somehow Missed In Inglourious Basterds
6. Landa's Strudel Looks Like A House Once He Puts A Cigarette Out In It
Here's something you can miss incredibly easily, and yet, once you know it's there you'll think about it every time you watch the movie.
At the end of the incredible, unforgettable scene where Hans Landa dines at a French restaurant and makes the most intense strudel order of all time, he departs by extinguishing his cigarette in the remains of his dessert.
It's been suggested by some fans that Tarantino lingers on this rather unflattering final glimpse of the desert because it now resembles a house - the LaPadite cabin from the start of the film, in fact. Given that Landa's sat next to Shosanna throughout the scene, that certainly makes sense.
Now, it's fair to say that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and the human brain sees what it wants to see, but sometimes a cigarette stuck in a strudel does indeed look like a house. Again, Tarantino doesn't do anything by accident.
