20 Things You Somehow Missed In Jaws
19. The Shooting Stars
There is one particular moment in the film where a shooting star can be seen in the background, followed by a couple more which mimic a meteor shower. There has been a great speculation as to whether they are real or special effects. Allegedly, Spielberg himself said the first one was real and they just happened to capture it at the right time. He then took it upon himself to have a couple more edited in.
But the legend that the stars were real has since been fully debunked. The main fault in the theory is that the scene was filmed during daylight hours and then processed to look darker, making it impossible for supposed meteors to be visible on camera. And if examined closer, the stars are clearly hand-drawn animation.
Nevertheless, shooting stars are visible at one point during the movie, whether real or fake.
