14. Tanaka Keeps Looking Up Even After He's Decapitated
We get an ultra-violent introduction to O-Ren Ishii aka Cottonmouth (Lucy Liu) in the present day when she brutally executes Boss Tanaka (Jun Kunimura), a Yakuza who mocks Ishii for her mixed heritage.
Ishii responds by cutting his head clean off with her samurai sword, and making it clear that any other objectors will suffer the same fate.
The entire sequence is insane enough that you might've missed an anatomical "mistake" when Ishii holds Tanaka's severed head up to the camera.
His eyes are still looking upwards, as they would have when Ishii was swinging her sword at his head, but if you know much about human physiology, his eyes would've quickly relaxed into a "neutral" position after the decapitation.
Tarantino and his production team likely knew this wasn't realistic, but it was far more important for it to look cool, right?
