20 Things You Somehow Missed In Layer Cake

16. The Specific Canine Scene That Wasn't Lifted From The Book

As will later be revealed, a number of changes were ultimately made when transferring J. J. Connolly's 2000 novel onto the big screen. And among said cinematic change-ups was a certain scene involving Craig's XXXX going out of his way to kill off Kenneth Cranham's Jimmy on the back of hearing a recording of his plans to betray him.

Instead of the original turn of events seen on the page that involve the central figure picking off two Rottweilers in Jimmy's garden before dispatching the slippery fellow, the call was made to keep the killing of canines to a minimum.

This was reportedly down to the fact that having your protagonist murder an innocent dog was seen as an understandable no-no by those calling the shots. Driving a bullet through a member of the criminal underworld, though? That's all part of the game.
