20 Things You Somehow Missed In Mad Max: Fury Road

18. Every Single Shot Is Centered

Mad Max Fury Road
Warner Bros. Pictures

It would've been incredibly easy for a film as chaotic as Mad Max to be visually incomprehensible, but Miller had one ingenious trick up his sleeve: centering every single shot.

Miller asked John Seale to ensure that the focal element of each shot - typically, the actor - was centered in the middle of the frame at all times, so the viewer isn't constantly having to scan the screen and find it themselves.

This allowed Miller to employ quick-cutting without disorientating viewers, though it also required a certain amount of adjustment for veteran DP Seale, who wasn't used to this framing style.
