20 Things You Somehow Missed In Mad Max: Fury Road

13. The Frame Rate Changes Throughout The Film

In addition to ensuring the frame is centered at all times, Miller also employed another unique stylistic trick to keep things coherent - varying the framerate of shots throughout the film.

If you thought that parts of the movie had an unnaturally jerky, almost cartoon-style look to them, you're not losing your mind - Miller slowed down shots which ran too fast and sped up shots which needed more urgency, ensuring barely half the film runs at a conventional framerate of 24fps.

It's a brilliant artistic flourish that allows Miller to tailor every single shot to the audience's understanding, rather than simply cutting everything at 24fps and hoping for the best.
