17. Vincent's Bathroom Book

Bad things may happen when Vincent Vega takes a trip to the little boys' room, but he is at least seemingly always prepared to make his time there as comfortable as possible. In a time before mindless scrolling, he did the 1994 equivalent and read a book.

Though he is seen in the bathroom three times through the movie, the first in Mia’s house is just for a pep talk, so he’s not reading. In Butch’s apartment however he does his business and is enjoying a good read before he is brutally gunned down moments later.

The book in question is Modesty Blaise, a spy novel by Peter O’Donnell surrounding the titular character, and may have gone some way to inspiring Mia’s Fox Force Five character (more on her later). Later in the movie, though earlier in the actual timeline, Vincent can be seen reading the same book in the diner while Pumpkin is trying to rob Jules’ wallet.

Either this is a huge coincidence, or Vincent takes the book with him in constant preparation of needing the toilet. Constipation is apparently a symptom of heroin abuse, so this would certainly fit John Travolta’s character.
