20 Things You Somehow Missed In Rocky

13. Cut Me, Mick

One of the most memorable lines of dialogue in the movie is when Rocky, severely beaten in the waning rounds of his match, implores his trainer to cut his eye. This is a confusing scene if, like me, you've never boxed, and the only fight you've had is a battle for a Sega remote, with your younger cousin... which you lost.

Rocky's eyes are swollen shut, and he asks Mickey to cut them because he can't see. This was a common practice for boxers in the 70s when literally no one was concerned about bloodborne pathogens. Trainers would use a razor blade to make a cut below the boxer's brow. This would, supposedly, release enough blood to ease swelling and make it easier for a fighter to see.

This is what Rocky is asking for, but if you watch the moment close enough, you'll see the trainer squirt a little red dye above Rocky's eye. Look, Stallone's not a method actor, so we'll have to let this goof pass. But, when Daniel Day-Lewis yells, "cut me," you know that dude is getting sliced up.
