20 Things You Somehow Missed In Scream

3. Actor Joseph Whipp Also Played A Cop In A Nightmare On Elm Street

Scream Drew Barrymore
Dimension Films & New Line Cinema

Throughout the movie Dewey works under Sheriff Burke (Joseph Whipp), who makes a small but memorable appearance and wears the same type of boots as Ghostface, as is ultimately proved to be a minor red herring.

But Whipp's casting in the movie is another act of Craven getting cute with the audience, because Whipp had appeared previously in the director's A Nightmare on Elm Street, playing Sgt. Parker.

Though Whipp doesn't act much these days, his filmography is littered with roles as cops and doctors, and Craven re-casting him as a supporting police officer was clearly a nod to their work together more than a decade prior.

Sadly, though, Sheriff Burke never re-appeared in any of the Scream sequels.
