20 Things You Somehow Missed In Scream

18. The Subtle Halloween References

There are actually two other references to Carpenter's original Halloween sneakily included in the film's opening sequence with Casey.

When her parents show up, Casey's father tells her mother, "Get in the car and drive down to the Mackenzie's," which is almost directly lifted from Halloween when Laurie tells the kids, "I want you to walk down the street to the Mackenzie's and knock on their door."

The other reference is more easily heard if you're watching with a decent set of headphones - when Ghostface quizzes Casey on horror movies and asks her who the killer in the Halloween movies is, an orchestral reworking of that movie's main musical theme can be faintly heard in the background.
