20 Things You Somehow Missed In The Mummy (1999)

7. Earplugs

Although sand caused the guns on set to jam, this wasn't a problem while shooting scenes outside the desert. So, while filming the gunfight on the boat, the cast's weapons fired blanks.

Unfortunately, this led to another issue. Even though blanks aren't real bullets, they were still very, very loud. Not wanting to suffer from tinnitus, some actors were equipped with earplugs during the boat sequence. Of course, special measures were taken to ensure the plugs were obscured from view.

However, there's one moment where they are visible. Just as the shootout on the boat is wrapping up, there's a shot of the Americans blasting at the Medjai. The shot only lasts two seconds but it's clear as day the two shooters in the middle are wearing plugs.
