20 Things You Somehow Missed In The Shawshank Redemption

4. Andy’s Anti-Aging Problem

Shawshank Redemption
Columbia Pictures

By the time the film has reached its final reel, Andy has been imprisoned at Shawshank Prison for just one year shy of two decades. Nineteen whole years he spent behind bars, facing things such as brutal violence, malnourishment, plenty of stress, and the passing of time itself.

All these factors would absolutely take a physical toll on a person, undoubtedly aging them much faster than they would’ve in the real world. However, Tim Robbins is clearly the same age at the end as he was at the beginning.

For whatever reason, the makeup department failed to do any sort of aging on the actor’s face as the movie progresses on. (Although they do make sure to put increasingly dark circles under his eyes as he digs, so there’s something.)

Matthew Austin hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
