When Truman makes his daring escape by boat at the end of the movie, you might've casually noticed that the vessel is named the Santa Maria.

This might sound like a totally normal name for a boat, but it's one which retains a specific context in relation to Truman's journey.

You see, the Santa Maria is also the name of the boat which Christopher Columbus used to sail to the New World.

Of course, this isn't a million miles away from Truman literally breaking through the wall of the Truman Show and discovering his new reality behind it.
