The final choices for the new faces and director for Thor: Ragnarok are part of the reason why the feature was so revelatory in the MCU during the time of its release. The likes of Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson and Karl Urban infused their roles with gripping personality and Taika Waititi's filmmaking sensibilities ensured that the story was unlike its predecessors.

Before Waititi signing on as director, names such as Rob Marshall, Rawson Marshall Thuber and Ruben Fleischer were considered to helm the light-hearted adventure. Elizabeth Banks also expressed interest in directing the flick but this particular idea did not go far.

Furthermore, Lupita Nyong'o was considered for the role of Valkyrie, Charlize Theron for Hela and John C. Reilly was almost featured in the movie, reprising his role as Rhomann Dey from the Guardians movies.
