While Chris Hemsworth's desire for a new direction is well-known, he was not the only actor who wanted something new for the Thor films. In fact, a few actors were apprehensive on making further MCU appearances because they felt the franchise did not have much creative juice left in it. Fortunately, Taika Waititi's involvement led to them having a change of heart towards their roles.

Idris Elba, who played the all-seeing Heimdall, expressed his dissatisfaction with the role. He pointed out that he felt like that his Marvel role in the Dark World paled in comparison to his contemporaneous role as Nelson Mandela in the 2013 biopic, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

Furthermore, Anthony Hopkins was also displeased with his role as Odin.
