20 Underrated Movies You Have To See

7. Moon

The Boondock Saints
Sony Pictures Classics

Moon is one of the most underrated science fiction film of recent times, sporting great visuals, an engaging plot, and a phenomenal performance from pre-Oscar Sam Rockwell. Directed by Duncan Jones, the film was released in 2009 to solid reviews from both critics and audiences alike, but was a limited success at the box office.

Despite this lack of ticket sales at its initial release, Moon is truly poignant and unique picture sporting an electrifying and thoughtful performance from Rockwell and a simple but exciting premise.

Following astronaut Sam Bell (Rockwell) as he works alone on a lunar mining station, Moon goes from a quiet and subtle piece about isolation and a man hoping to see his family again to a daring and intelligent mystery when Bell comes across a clone of himself in a crashed lunar rover. Despite the lack of cast, the film never lets up its tension or claustrophobia.

It's worth watching to see Rockwell strut his stuff, and for that mind-messing ending alone.
