20 Upcoming Horror Movies That Might Surprise You

It's hard not to be concerned about the state of the Scream franchise after the absolutely dire recent Scream 7, even admitting that it went through a uniquely strained development process ahead of shooting.

But Scream 7 was also the slasher series' most commercially successful entry to date, and so Paramount and Spyglass wasted no time at all in announcing that Scream 8 was in active development.

Yet there is a small sliver of hope here that Scream 7 might just be an unfortunate outlier, especially as some intriguing personnel are already knuckling down on the sequel.

Lilla and Nora Zuckerman, who have worked as writers on hit crime comedy series Poker Face, will be penning the script, while Scream creator Kevin Williamson - who so anonymously directed Scream 7 - opted not to return for this sequel, leaving the director's chair open to a potentially more inspired choice.

Considering how Poker Face weaved so many engrossing mysteries over the course of its two seasons, it's easy to see how the Zuckermans' creative sensibilities might inject some much-needed life into an IP that desperately needs new blood.
