20 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Need To End Their Franchises
6. Shrek 5
The Franchise: DreamWorks' animated series following the adventures of the titular ogre (Mike Myers) as he teams up with his unlikely ally Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and tries to make a home with his love, Fiona (Cameron Diaz). After four movies (half acclaimed, half not), the series has grossed $3.5 billion worldwide. Sequel Status: Early last year, DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said, "I think you can be confident that we'll have another chapter in the Shrek series. We're not finished, and more importantly, neither is he", essentially confirming that Shrek 5 will happen within the next few years. After all, it's already been 5 years since the last one. Why It Needs To Be The Last One: Frankly, it's a totally unnecessary film considering that the last film pretty much tied everything off, but hopefully this time fans can bid farewell to Shrek in a slightly less sucky manner. How Likely Is It?: It really depends if audiences will still connect with the franchise in another 3, 4 or 5 years and actually go see Shrek 5. If the grosses are down, that'll be all she wrote, but if DreamWorks can pull off another $700+ million gross, then the big green guy will be back to stay. 4/10.
