20 Upcoming Movie Sequels That Need To End Their Franchises
20. Transformers 5
The Franchise: Michael Bay's effects-heavy series based on the classic Hasbro toy line, which has released four films to date and grossed $3.76 billion at the box office. Sequel Status: The release date for Transformers 5 is set for June 24, 2016, while for the first time in the series, Michael Bay will merely be producing instead of directing. Mark Wahlberg is back as protagonist Cade Yeager, Akiva Goldsman (i, Robot, The Da Vinci Code) is in talks to write it, and it's been rumoured that Bay's protege Jonathan Liebesman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) may direct. Why It Needs To Be The Last One: Because these movies pretty much serve up the same thing time and time again, and it's gotten pretty damn boring by this point. Any one viewer's patience can only sustain so much juvenile humour and eyeball-assaulting visuals, and the kids who once found these movies funny back in 2007 will pretty much be fully-grown adults by the time the fifth one comes out. How Likely Is It?: This franchise is a cash cow with or without Michael Bay, so don't expect it to stop any time soon. A sixth film is also extremely likely, not to mention several beyond that. 2/10.
