Just about nobody expected last year's Jumanji reboot-quel to be the critical and commercial success that it was, inexplicably grossing almost $1 billion despite releasing mere days after Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Naturally, a sequel - is it Jumanji 2 or Jumanji 3? - was fast-tracked into production, with shooting set to begin in January, with stars Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Nick Jonas all set to reprise their roles.

Director Jake Kasdan and co-writers Scott Rosenberg, and Jeff Pinkner are also set to return, making it clear that Sony isn't tinkering with the winning formula at all. As long as the sequel manages to provide a fresh spin on the solid foundation set by its predecessor, it could be a lot of fun.
