20 Upcoming Movies That Made INSANE Casting Choices
3. Markiplier - The Protagonist (Iron Lung)
Iron Lung is the feature directorial debut of Mark Fischbach, better known as Markiplier - one of the most popular YouTubers of all time.
The film is adapted from the 2022 horror simulation game of the same name, in which a convict explores an ocean of blood in the titular rusty submarine.
Fischbach has boldly financed the entire movie himself, and even more ambitiously he will also star as the unnamed protagonist.
While Fischbach has acted in a limited capacity before this, it goes without saying that playing the main character in a claustrophobic horror feature without many other on-screen characters is a very different challenge, and one which he may or may not be up to.
Furthermore, Iron Lung's official website lists the runtime as 127 minutes long, which presents an even heftier challenge for Fischbach.
That is to say, most confined, single-location genre films have relatively short runtimes for good reason - it's tough to keep an audience engaged with few characters or locations.
And so, Fischbach's decision to cast himself rather than hiring a more experienced actor is a gigantic risk - though if it pays off, it'll certainly prove he's got the acting ability to carry a feature film mostly by himself.
