12. Mortal Kombat II
2021's Mortal Kombat reboot wasn't bad - it certainly offered up a ton of gory style, though suffered from bending over backwards to onboard those unfamiliar with the hit fighting game franchise.
And while you might expect more of the same from Mortal Kombat II, this sequel actually has a hell of a lot going for it.
Even ignoring the obvious boost of introducing Karl Urban's Johnny Cage, it appears that Mortal Kombat II will be pushing original protagonist Cole Young (Lewis Tan) - a character created solely for the previous film - to the periphery, with Cage effectively becoming the series' new lead character.
Beyond that, the sequel will also introduce fan favourite kombatants Kitana (Adeline Rudolph), Jade (Tati Gabrielle), Quan Chi (Damon Herriman), Shao Kahn (Martyn Ford), Sindel (Ana Thu Nguyen), and Baraka (CJ Bloomfield).
The trailer sure looks like a ton of fun, and above all else Warner Bros. confirmed late last year that a third film was already in the works, suggesting that they have enormous confidence in the film moving forward.
