20 Utterly Devastating Movie Endings No One Saw Coming
9. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
After the tragic and untimely death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020, the Black Panther sequel was always going to be tough to watch. As such, it was ultimately a beautiful and poignant tribute to a man missed both on screen and off it.
Of course, the opening scene in which Shuri's (Letitia Wright) entire lab is scrambling for a cure to T'Challa's unnamed ailment is harrowing, and it sets the tone of grief and loss throughout the entire story. There is another scene in particular at the very end of the movie that is devastating in another way.
The epilogue of sorts follows Shuri out to Nakia's (Lupita Nyong'o) home in Haiti, where it is revealed that she and T'Challa had a son, who carried his father's name. The reveal of the young Prince T'Challa (Divine Love Konadu-Sun) was truly heartbreaking.
While it was tragic to know that the small child had lost his father, it was uplifting in a way to see that the Black Panther's spirit and name would live on through his son. This was a bittersweet touch at the end of a brilliant, painful film that, almost more than most in this list, left not a dry eye in the house.
